“In Between”

David R. Hayworth School of Art and Design, Hight Point University, Highpoint, NC

1/20-3/15 2023.

Amidst the continuous conflicts and devastating events experienced by humanity, my first post aims to showcase a series of videos and photos, capturing my recent installations. These works serve as a response to the prevailing wars and chaos that persist in our world. Finding the delicate beauty and balancing between chaos, in the work titled "Leveling" features a collection of miniature objects, including broken light bulbs, toy soldiers, strands of hair, ear pickers, and even shark eggs, scattered atop the weighty armrests sourced from discarded theater seats. The stark contrast between these harsh objects and the substantial armrests is harmonized with the soft, translucent silk organza, evoking the sensation of resting feet upon the floor.

In response to the distressing and appalling disasters, alongside the experiences of disorder and unease that impact us profoundly, the second installation, standing at 25 feet, presents a piece titled "In Between." It encapsulates a depiction of disorder through soiled laundry, interspersed with moments of beauty, intricate disorder, delicate embroidery, sudden paint strokes, and intricate prints. Encircling this central piece are quieter elements shaped like houses, casting shadows delicately held together by barely-there cotton bindings, teetering on the verge of collapse yet managing to maintain an aura of tranquility.
